Santa Barbara County is one of 61 branches of the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC).  The MTAC, founded in 1897, is the largest and one of the most respected professional music teacher associations in the nation.  It is an organization of approximately 5,000 members whose mission is to pursue excellence in music education throughout California.  The MTAC provides opportunities for an increasing number of students to explore their musical potential, expand their knowledge and appreciation of music and to cultivate their varying skills and levels of ability.
 

The MTAC Code of Ethics establishes a high standard in personal and professional conduct.  The Santa Barbara County Branch, chartered in 1956, maintains this standard.

 

What are the qualifications of the members of the

Music Teachers’ Association of California?

In order to qualify for membership in MTAC, music teachers must have earned a degree in music or have qualified by offering proof of extensive training in music history, theory, pedagogy and performance as well as several years of teaching experience.
